Here are some answers to questions about what happens after you've completed the comparison process and decided you want to switch electricity suppliers .
If you change your mind it's okay,
your new electricity supplier
will allow you ten days of 'cooling-off' period,
which means that you have ten days during which you can change your mind and go back to your old
energy supplier
.
No, definitely not!
The actual delivery of energy to your premises, via the pipes and wires, is done by your energy distributer (not by your energy retailer).
This distributor will continue to supply the electricity to your house
when you change over to another energy retailer.
The retailer issues your
electricity bills, however, they purchase energy from the distributor and
resell it to you. You can't buy electricity directly from the distributor,
you have to go through an energy retailer.
You can be certain that when you switch retailers, you won't experience an interruption to your electricity supply
because the underlying connection to the distributor will continue to be the same as before.
The 'paperwork' is all processed very quickly,
usually in less than 24 hours.
But the actual switchover
won't happen until after
your current supplier
has issued your final bill,
and they can only do that once they've read your meter one final time.
So, it depends on
how long until your meter is next due to be read. It could take as long as three months.

Here are a few easily implemented ways for reducing how much electricity you use
- Eliminate draughts. Stop cold air or hot air getting in or getting out through gaps under doors and around your windows by using gap seal tape and door snakes.
- Turn off all appliances at the power point when you're not using them.
- Dress for cold weather, rather than turn on the heater, (warm socks, booties, beanie, jumper).
- A cheap alternative to an electric blanket is a hot water bottle.
- Don't use the clothes dryer as often. Instead, hang clothes to dry outside or use an indoor clothes rack.
- Reduce your use of lights through the use of as much natural light as possible.
- Reduce air conditioning use by opening the windows at night-time to let the house cool down, and then closing them each morning thus keeping the hot air out.
- Close the doors to areas of your home that aren't in use, so you only heat or cool a smaller space.
- Prevent the sun from over-heating your home by closing the blinds and curtains in the rooms that the hot sun shines directly into.
