Compare Electricity and Gas in these States

Our energy comparison service is only available in states that have a deregulated energy market. Each energy company can only operate in some regions, and therefore the number of energy providers that are compared for you differs depending on where you live. In the rest of Australia, you can only buy energy from one company in your region.

FAQ about switching energy companies

This section contains frequently asked questions and answers about what happens after you have completed the comparison process and have made the decision you want to switch energy companies .

It's okay if you change your mind because your new energy company allows you a ten-day 'cooling-off' period, which means you have ten days during which you can change your mind and remain with your current energy company .
Definitely not! The actual delivery of energy to your premises, via the pipes and wires, is all done by an energy distributer (not by your retailer). That distributor continues to supply the energy to your house even if you switch over to another energy retailer. The retailer issues your energy bills, but they purchase the energy from the distributor and resell it to you. You can't purchase energy directly from your distributor, you must go through an energy retailer. You can be certain that you won't experience an interruption to your energy supply when you switch retailers, because the connection to the distributor continues to be the same.
All the 'paperwork' is processed quite quickly, usually within 24 hours. However, the actual switchover will not take place until your current company has issued you a final bill, and they can't do that until after your next meter reading. So, it depends on how long until your meter is next due to be read. It could take up to three months.
We'll sign you up with your new energy company , and will also notify your current provider that you are changing to another retailer. The actual changeover to your new company won't happen straight away, though, because the old company will need to do one final meter reading. and then issue you a final bill. Your new company will start charging you from the date that the meter is read. the distributor who feeds the energy to your premises continues to be the same as before the switch.
No. Our service is free to you. We will, however, be paid a commission by the new energy company .While our service is provided to you without charge, you may be subject to charges in relation to your current service, including exit fees. You should check this with your current supplier(s).

Tips to lower energy consumption to save on your bills

Here are some easy to implement ways to reduce how much you spend on energy

  • Reduce draughts. Minimise cold air or hot air getting in or getting out via gaps under doors or around your windows by using gap seal tape and door snakes.
  • Turn all appliances off at the power point when you're not using them.
  • Instead of turning on the heater, put on warmer clothing (warm socks, beanie, booties, jumper).
  • A cheap alternative to an electric blanket is a hot water bottle.
  • Avoid using the clothes dryer. Hang your clothes to dry outside or use an indoor clothes rack.
  • Reduce your use of lights. Use natural light more often.
  • Close the doors to areas of your home that you don't use, so you only cool or heat a smaller space.
  • Minimise air conditioning use by opening your windows in the evening allow the house cool down, and closing them each morning to keep hot air out.
  • Prevent the sun over-heating your home by closing the blinds and curtains in the rooms where the sun shines in.
