Compare Electricity and Gas in these States

Our energy comparison service is only available in states that have a deregulated energy market. Each energy supplier is only able to supply energy to some regions, and therefore the number of energy providers that are compared for you differs depending on where you live. In the rest of Australia, you can only purchase energy from one supplier in your region.

FAQ about switching energy suppliers

Here are some frequently asked questions and answers about what happens after you've completed the comparison process and have made the decision that want to switch energy suppliers .

If you change your mind it's okay because your new energy supplier must give you ten days of 'cooling-off' period, that means you have ten days to cancel the process and stay with your old energy supplier .
No, Absolutely not! The actual delivery of energy to your premises, via the pipes and wires, is done by an energy distributer (not your energy retailer). The distributor will continue to supply energy to your house even after you change to another energy retailer. The retailer issues your energy bills, but they buy the energy from the distributor, then resell it to you. You can't buy energy directly from your distributor, you have to go through an energy retailer. You can be certain that your energy supply won't be interrupted when you switch retailers, because you will continue to have the same connection to your distributor.
All the 'paperwork' is processed very quickly, usually in less than 24 hours. However, the final switchover cannot go ahead until after your current supplier has sent your final bill, and they can't do that until they've done your final meter reading. So, it depends on how long until your meter is next due to be read. It be up to three months.
We'll sign you up with the new energy supplier , and we will also notify your present provider that you are changing to another retailer. The actual switch in suppliers won't happen straight away, though, because your current supplier needs to read your meter one final time. and then send you a final bill. The new supplier starts charging you from the date of the meter reading. the distributor who feeds the energy to your home continues to be the same as it was before the switch.
No. Our service is free to you. However, we will be paid a commission by the new energy supplier .While our service is provided to you without charge, you may be subject to charges in relation to your current service, including exit fees. You should check this with your current supplier(s).

Tips for reducing energy consumption and lower your bills

Here is a list of easy to implement tips for reducing your energy consumption

  • Turn all your appliances off at the power point when you're not using them.
  • Use your clothes dryer less. Hang the clothes to dry outside or use an indoor clothes rack.
  • Eliminate draughts. Stop hot or cold air getting in or out through the gaps under doors or around windows by using gap seal tape and door snakes.
  • Dress for the weather, instead of turning on the heater (booties, warm socks, jumper, beanie).
  • A cheap alternative to an electric blanket is a hot water bottle.
  • Minimise air conditioning usage by opening windows at night to let the cool air in, then closing them in the morning thus keeping hot air out.
  • Stop the hot sun over-heating your home by closing the blinds and curtains in the rooms into which the hot sun directly shines in.
  • Close the doors to areas of your home that you aren't using, so that you just cool or heat a smaller space.
  • Reduce your use of lights by using natural light where possible. Turn lights off when there's no on in the room.
