Our energy comparison service is only available in states that have a deregulated energy market. Each energy supplier can only operate in some regions, and therefore the number of energy providers that are compared for you differs depending on where you live. FAQ about switching energy suppliers

This section contains frequently asked questions and answers about what happens after you have finished the comparison process and have made the decision that you want to switch energy suppliers .

It's okay if you change your mind because your new energy supplier has to give you a ten-day 'cooling-off' period, which means that you have ten days to change your mind and go back to your current energy supplier .
Definitely not! The delivery of actual energy to your house, via the pipes and wires, is all done by an energy distributer (not by your retailer). This distributor continues to supply the energy to your house after you switch to a different energy retailer. It's the retailer that issues your energy bills, but they purchase energy from the distributor and resell it to you. You can't purchase energy directly from your distributor, you must to buy it from one of the retailers that resells the distributor's energy. You can be certain that there won't be any interruption to your energy supply when you switch retailers, because the connection to the distributor will continue to be the same as before.
All the 'paperwork' is processed quite quickly, often in under 24 hours. But the final switchover can't go ahead until your current supplier has sent you a final bill, and they can't do that until after your next meter reading. Therefore, it depends on how soon your next meter reading happens. It could take up to three months.
We'll sign you up with your new energy supplier , and we also notify your current provider that you're changing providers. The actual changeover to the new supplier will not happen immediately, though, because the old supplier will need to do a final meter reading. then send you their final bill. Your new supplier only begins charging you from the date of the meter reading. the distributor that supplies the energy to your premises will continue to be the same one as before the switch.
No. Our comparison and switching service is free to you. We will receive a commission from the new energy supplier .While our service is provided to you without charge, you may be subject to charges in relation to your current service, including exit fees. You should check this with your current supplier(s).

Tips to lower your energy consumption and lower your bills

Here is a list of easily implemented tips to reduce how much you spend on energy

  • Reduce draughts. Minimise hot or cold air getting in or getting out through the gaps under doors and around windows through the use of gap seal tape and door snakes.
  • Turn appliances off at the power point when you're not using them.
  • Instead of turning on the heater, wear warm clothing (warm socks, beanie, jumper, booties).
  • Avoid usage of the clothes dryer. Instead, dry clothes outside or use an indoor clothes rack.
  • A cheap alternative to an electric blanket is a hot water bottle.
  • Minimise lighting. Use natural light more often, and replace older lights with LED lights.
  • Close doors to areas of the house that you don't use, so that you only cool or heat a smaller space.
  • Prevent the hot sun over-heating your home by closing curtains and blinds in the rooms where the sun shines in.
  • Use less air conditioning by opening the windows during the night to allow the house cool down, and then shutting them in the morning to keep hot air out.
