Tips for how to use less electricity to save on your bills
Here is a list of easily implemented ways for reducing how much you spend on electricity
- A cheap alternative to an electric blanket is a hot water bottle.
- Turn off your appliances at the power point when you're not using them.
- Wear clothing that is appropriate for the weather, rather than turn on the heater, (warm socks, jumper, booties, beanie).
- Don't use the clothes dryer as frequently. Instead, dry the clothes outside or use an indoor clothes rack.
- Eliminate draughts. Prevent cold air or hot air getting in or getting out through the gaps under doors and around your windows through the use of door snakes and gap seal tape.
- Reduce the use of lights through the use of as much natural light as possible. Turn the lights off if there's no none in the room.
- Stop the sun from over-heating your home by closing the curtains and blinds in the rooms that the hot sun shines directly into.
- Close doors to areas of your home that aren't in use, so you just heat or cool a smaller space.
- Use less air conditioning by opening windows at night to allow the house cool down, and then shutting them each morning thus keeping hot air out.
